Thank you for your interest in CrossFit Surprise! We are located in the Fry’s Marketplace on the
Corner of Greenway and Cotton in Surprise AZ. We are dedicated to helping
people get in the best shape of their life. Whether you are a couch potato
trying to get motivated, an athlete looking to earn a division 1 college sports
scholarship, or you just want to have fun doing something with your friends or
want to meet new friends who share your same goals for a healthy lifestyle, we
are here to help! We are 100% dedicated to serving all of your fitness
needs in a fun supportive team atmosphere.
When you train at CrossFit Surprise you will learn the fundamental skills of CrossFit. If there
is a particular exercise you are struggling with we will work with you until
you are comfortable jumping in with a class. You will gain/restore
functionality to your life, and you will be surrounded by others who share your
passion for staying healthy & fit! CrossFit Surprise is not your
typical “big box gym” where you sign up and then are left alone to navigate all
the equipment unless you hire a trainer which can cost $200.00 per month for
once a week sessions! Each time you walk through our doors you will have the
attention of one of our coaches, you are never left to figure it out on your
Why try us? Well, there are a few things to consider:
1. We all need a coach. Regardless of our fitness level and expertise, we all have a tendency to program our own workouts to what we are good at. At CrossFit Surprise we will have you
engage in activities that will help you achieve optimal performance in all ten
physical skills (cardiorespiratory endurance, stamina, flexibility, strength, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy).
2. CrossFit Surprise is more than 4 walls and some equipment. It is a community of
likeminded people who are there to improve their fitness and support the people
around them. It is an atmosphere that fosters family. We will NOT lock you in
to 1 year or 18 month EFT commitments that you cannot get out of or are
responsible for finding someone to buy the remainder of your contract. Our goal
is to have you as a happily returning member of our family. Our EFT agreements
are always NO COMMITMENT and you can cancel anytime with in person or written
3. The CrossFit is prescription for fitness is “Constantly Varied Functional Movements executed
at High Intensity”. We are not wasting time here doing movements that are
not functional to life. The workouts we program are filled with exercises that
will greatly improve your cardiorespiratory endurance, stamina, strength,
flexibility, power, speed, coordination, accuracy, agility, and balance.
By excelling and holding a priority in these 10 general physical skills we will
improve our quality of life & keep ourselves from the onset of decrepitude!
Just saying the word ‘decrepitude’ makes me want to train at CrossFit Surprise
just so I can avoid getting it!

All our coaches are at least CrossFit level 1 certified and are currently and constantly working on continuing their fitness education.
Mike Westerling, Head Coach, has been a personal strength and conditioning coach (he hates the term “personal trainer”) for over 27 years. Over the past 30 years he has earned his BS in Biology and competed in Powerlifting, Bodybuilding, Strongman and Grappling. He has trained everyone from 80 year old arthritic couch potatoes just wanting to regain their health to pro strongmen trying to come back from major injury and virtually everyone in between. Jolene Westerling, Manager, has been into working out for the past 20 years and managing big box gyms for the past 12. After having her second child she realized she wasn’t getting back in shape as fast as she would’ve liked so she set her sights on a bodybuilding competition to fuel her fire. She asked her husband to train her for it and when she saw the results that truly focused training with a goal gave her she started to understand why the retention rate at these big box gyms is horrible and only a very small percentage of people that continue to go actually make any progress. She got certified as a personal trainer and started helping others get focused and achieve their goals. She’s switched from bodybuilding to CrossFit and been doing The Rugged Maniac and Mud Runs for fun! Her number one goal has aways been to keep her members happy and coming back!
